By Drew Pitt | MXDWN A known eccentric takes a dip in calmer waters When most people think of Serj Tankian, their mind conjures up images of a wide-eyed anticapitalist shouting from a stage. They may ponder some of the more absurd lyrical choices he’s made throughout the years, such as “banana terracotta, terracotta pie” or the silly song titles like “Beethoven’s Cock.” Whatever one imagines, it likely isn’t a man conducting a gorgeous, restrained symphony. System of a Down’s Serj Tankian Releases Instrumental Cinematique Series: Stream

The collection is assembled in two separate albums: Illuminate and Violent Violins. The former features classical, cinematic arrangements and instrumentation, where as Violent Violins melds that style to a more modern approach featuring synths and electronica. Serj Tankian Shares New Songs “Love at the Border,” “Blues,” “Entitled” and More From Cinematique

By Aaron Grech | MXDWN System of a Down’s Serj Tankian has been busy with the release of his upcoming project Cinematique, a collection of cinematic orchestrations set for release next Friday, August 6. During the past few days Tankian released “Piano,” “Entitled,” “Waiting For The Submarine” and “Blues”; four traditional compositions that will be present on the Illuminate portion of the album, while yesterday’s release “Love at the Border” will be featured on Violent Violins, which will host modern compositions. Serj Tankian premieres two new songs from Cinematique opus

As well as releasing his recent Elasticity EP, the System Of A Down frontman has also been hard at work on a two-part, 25-track opus, Cinematique. Split into two distinct moods – one more traditionally classical, dubbed Violent Violins, and a more modern take, Illuminate – Serj has now given a peek at a cut from each: Waiting For The Submarine from the former, and from Illuminate, Blues. Serj Tankian Streams Four Orchestral Songs Off Cinematique Series Albums

The albums are Illuminate, which focuses more on classical compositions, and Violent Violins, which takes a more modern approach to things.
