Serj Tankian

This past April, Cal State University Northridge Alumnus Serj Tankian performed his new collection of compositions – Invocations – at The Soraya Theater on campus at his alma mater in Los Angeles.

Joining him on stage was the CSUN Symphony Orchestra, ethnic instrumentalists, and additional vocalists including a full choir.For this special occasion, the System Of A Down-frontman was accompanied by renowned tenor Brian Thorsett, world vocalist Azam Ali, metal vocalist Charles Elliott (Abysmal Dawn) and alto vocalist Francesca Genco.
Invocations is an operatic suite that can best be described as music that calls on spirits to co-inspire or inter-inspire. Spanning over a decade of his career from different sources and backgrounds, this is music that plays on the deepest heart strings of the listener at a tempo that sets the heart to rest and the spirit to wander.

Sonically, the 15 compositions comprising Tankian’s Invocations weave symphonic and cinematic musical styles with plenty of emotional swells along the way.
